In the multiTESS pilot plant, developed by the Solar Institute Jülich and Aachen University of Applied Sciences, the BGH FecroTHERM heating wire reliably converts electricity into heat.
At the heart of the pilot plant in Jülich is a ‘power-to-heat’ concept featuring an air heater developed by Otto Junker Solutions. Inside, heating elements made from our BGH FecroTHERM resistance heating wire convert electrical energy into heat.
Key figures:
– 400 kW heating capacity, modularly scalable to over 100 MW
– 400 kW heating capacity, modularly scalable to over 100 MW
– 1,100 °C air outlet temperature at a wire temperature of approx. 1,200 °C
– 98 per cent efficiency in converting electricity to heat
– 3 MWh ceramic heat storage with a loss of just 2 per cent per day
Since commencing continuous operation in 2022, BGH FecroTHERM has proven to be reliable in daily high-load operation. To date, no failures attributable to weaknesses in the wire have been reported. BGH’s resistance heating wire has thus proven its worth in real-world, electrified high-temperature systems under extreme conditions.
