What Glass Has to Do with BGH Steel - Enhanced Performance in Glass Manufacturing with Premium Tool Steel BGH GLASS ONE

In glass processing, surface quality, wear resistance and resistance to thermal cycling are non-negotiable. This is precisely where BGH GLASS ONE sets the standard: a Cr-Ni-alloyed martensitic stainless tool steel developed specifically for the glass industry. It combines excellent high-gloss polishability with exceptional hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

Why this is crucial for glass mould makers

  • Superior surface quality, designed for high-gloss polishing – ideal when the quality of the mould surface directly determines the quality of the product.
  • Consistent hardness level on delivery: supplied heat-treated and double-tempered (+QDT) with a typical hardness of 32–36 HRC.
  • ESR-like purity: Thanks to a special melting process and carefully coordinated hot forming and heat treatment, BGH GLASS ONE significantly outperforms standard materials such as X22CrNi17 or X17CrNi16-2 in terms of microstructure, purity and homogeneity. In many applications, this eliminates the need for more expensive ESR grades.
  • Trusted micro-cleanliness (DIN 50602, Method K): K1 Ox ≤ 10 – a level of cleanliness on the working surfaces equivalent to that of an ESR.
  • Designed for tools subjected to heavy-duty use and large-scale production runs – particularly where high wear resistance and resistance to temperature fluctuations are required.

Typical applications include moulds for hollow and flat glass 🍸, technical and toughened glass, optical glass 👓 and glass-ceramic hobs ♨️.
