Special engineering steels

Whether heat-resistant steels, case-hardening steels, quenched and tempered steels or nitriding steels - alloyed stainless steels from BGH are used wherever maximum fatigue strength, wear resistance and surface hardness are required.

They are characterised by a particularly high degree of purity, which has a positive effect on the operating properties. Maximum purity can be achieved by additional remelting as ESR, PESR and VAR remelting.

Materials and areas of application

BGH QT-steels are characterized by their high strength combined with good toughness.

Our state-of-the-art heat treatment facilities—both conventional and induction—along with our employees’ expertise ensure compliance with tight process windows and precise temperature control to achieve the required mechanical and technological properties.

QT steels

BGH case-hardening steels are precisely tailored in their composition to meet the requirements of modern gear and drive components. The necessary combination of core toughness and a hard, wear-resistant surface is achieved through case hardening or carburizing of the finished component.

The carbon that diffuses into the surface layer of the component during this process causes the martensitic transformation of the surface layer during subsequent hardening.

Case-hardening steels

BGH nitriding steels, with their high wear resistance, are used in applications such as gearboxes, drive shafts, and conveyor shafts. Thanks to the use of strong nitride-forming elements such as vanadium, molybdenum, aluminum, or chromium, these steels are particularly well-suited for surface hardening through nitriding.

The nitriding process takes place after final machining and provides your components with maximum wear resistance, combined with high surface hardness and a ductile core. Because the temperatures used in nitriding are lower than those used in carburizing, thermal distortion is kept to a minimum.

Nitriding steels

BGH's heat-resistant steels offer high strength and reliable creep properties at operating temperatures of up to 600 °C. Thanks to proven alloy formulations containing chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium, as well as a homogeneous microstructure, they are ideally suited for applications in energy generation, power plant engineering, and pressure vessel construction, where long-term load-bearing capacity and operational safety are required.
