Tool steels

For complex material requirements

Whether as forging die, tool holder or industrial knife, as extrusion die or plastic or glass mould, as ejector pin or saw blade - the list of applications for modern tool steels is long. The requirement profile of modern tool steels is just as diverse.
BGH grades combine properties such as wear resistance, mirror polishability, resistance to heat and thermal shock, and of course strength and toughness to suit your particular application.
Through optimised metallurgy, we achieve the best degrees of purity and homogeneous microstructures, which are decisive for a long service life of your tools.

Materials and areas of application

Hot working tool steels are used in applications where tools and components must function reliably at high temperatures, offering high hot strength, toughness, and wear resistance. Find the right grades and supply forms for your metal forming, die-casting and toolmaking applications.

Hot working tool steels

BGH Edelstahl's plastic mould steels offer high toughness, corrosion resistance, excellent polishability and reliable dimensional stability. Find the right material for your demanding moulding tool requirements and efficient plastics processing needs.

Plastic mould steels

Cold working tool steels offer high hardness, wear resistance and compressive strength, making them ideal for shear blades, punching or stamping tools, as well as for bending, thread rolling or embossing tools.Discover materials from BGH Edelstahl for demanding applications in stamping, cutting and forming technology.

Cold working tool steels

High-speed steels are ideal for high cutting and feed rates, as well as for long tool life. Find the right HSS grade to ensure your manufacturing processes are precise and cost-effective.

Properties
BGH GLASS ONE is a premium hot working steel with 15 % chromium and 2 % Ni, which has been specially optimised for the glass processing industry. The steel is high-gloss polishable and has very high hardness combined with good wear and corrosion resistance.

Thanks to the special melting process in combination with precisely coordinated hot forming and heat treatment, standard grades such as X22CrNi17 or X17CrNi16-2 are outperformed in terms of microstructure, purity and homogeneity, eliminating the need to use expensive ESR grades.

Delivery condition
- quenched and double tempered (+QDT)

Application area
Highly stressed tools for glass moulds requiring superior surface quality and resistance against wear and temperature changes.
Suitable for large production batches.

Typical applications
- Moulds for tableware
- Moulds for technical and hard glass
- Moulds for optical glasses
- Moulds for electrical cookers
